The artistic legacy of the low rider lives on in Los Angeles.
With roots in Los Angeles' Chicano community, low rider car culture has grown up. The boys who drove low and slow in the '60s are now middle-aged, middle-class men living in the 'burbs, and what was once subversive is now becoming a mainstream and increasingly commercialized contemporary art form. While low riders sometimes bear the stigma of gang affiliation, they also symbolize ethnic pride and personal artistic expression. From the original low riders, to today’s teenagers just starting out, individual car clubs and generations of low riders show uniquely specialized styles and types of cars.
